We present a Digital Engagement Framework for expanding Handwritten Text Recognition, a form of AI-enabled automated transcription, at the National Library of Scotland. Through interviews with NLS staff, we consider future activities to fully harness the affordances of automated transcription and show the usefulness of DEFs in structuring these activities.
