The Flow of Emotions. Intratextual Emotion Progression and German-Language Poetry, c. 1850-1910

HTML XMLWe examine the representation of emotions in German-language poetry from 1850 to 1910 by analyzing their intratextual progression. Contrary to scholarly expectations, we find no substantial differences between realist and modernist poems. Rather, we show that in both periods the frequency of emotion increases toward the end of the poems.
